An Executive Summary
Sidhi
district forms part of the hills of Kaimour range of mountains. It is in the north eastern
part of Madhya Pradesh, consisting of a population over 18 lakh spread over 1800 villages
and eight development blocks. The district is predominantly tribal with about 30% and 12%
of the total population being Schedule tribes and schedule caste respectively.
The primary occupation of the
majority of the population in the district is agriculture and allied activities. About 35%
of the total land is under agriculture but only 17% of the net sown area is irrigated. By
and large the agricultural practice followed in the district is of traditional type and is
of sustainable nature, the fertilizer consumption per hectare is 66 kg as against the
national average of 86.7 kg.
The infrastructure
facilities of the district in the field of electricity, education and health are
inadequate. Though about 99% of the villages are electrified but the percentage of
households electrified is low. Similarly in the education and health sector there are
teachers and health workers available but due to inadequate infrastructure facilities they
are not able to make much impact.
The district has huge potential to develop. It is
rich in natural resources with 40% of the land under forest cover, which is a source of
various timber and non-timber forest produce. The district has numerous small rivers and
nallahs and is marked by three perennial rivers (Son, Gopad and Banas). If harvested in
proper way, assured source of irrigation can be provided to greater part of the
agricultural land. But unfortunately most of these resources are lying untapped due to
lack of proper infrastructure.
The total financial outlay of the proposal is 4502.78 lakh and shall be
used for filling in the critical gaps identified in the lead sectors. A maximum allocation
of Rs. 1869.34 lakh has been proposed for infrastructure development followed by an
investment of Rs. 1211.79 lakh in agriculture, which shall be used mainly for construction
of water harvesting structures. In addition an investment of Rs. 250.27 lakh in livelihood
sector, Rs. 486.98 lakh in health and Rs. 669.40 lakh in education is proposed. A total of
Rs. 15 lakh is allocated for monitoring and evaluation of the project.
To bring an all round development of the district,

meetings and is based on the local needs and aspirations of the people. Filling of gaps
identified is proposed under Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojna in line with the available
